Base: For a glowing foundation my current picks have been either Rimmel Wake Me Up or Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation. (Depending on how tanned I am, funnily enough Wake Me Up in Ivory is a great fake tanned shade for me, pale problems) Both offer a really nice medium yet buildable coverage with a lovely healthy finish. I've also finally been reaching for my Lumi Magique by Loreal, I personally prefer to use this as a primer to make my foundation super glowy but you can use this as a highlighter or mix it in directly with your foundation of choice. Normally I'd powder my whole face but since recently I've been wanting to achieve a dewier finish, I've only been setting under the eyes and my cupids bow which is where I tend to lose my foundation first. Once I've finished my entire face (eyes, lips and all), I like to set it with something. As I've been running out of my Urban Decay Chill Setting Spray, I've been experimenting with this NYX Matte Finish spray and have found the staying power pretty similar! Though this is described as a matte finish, I don't really find it has a mattifying affect on my dewy foundation. I'd quite like to try out the dewy finish though to see how they differ.
Face: I'm sure you're sick of hearing about this Nars palette but I honestly cannot put it down recently. The shade Luster has been a particular favourite for glowing peach cheeks. Another similar pick is the Too Faced Perfect Flush Blush in Peach Beach. This blusher has three separate strips of colour that when swirled together create a gorgeous peachy pink that when applied to the cheeks, makes you look like you're glowing from within. In terms of bronzer, I tend to reach for the usual, depdning on how tanned I am. For a night out I like to apply a few layers of fake tan, so something like the Rimmel Natural Bronzer is a nice choice, it's a little more orange than I would like but it looks so glowing across the face and chest too. (How many times can I say glowing in this blog post?) And finally, the creme de la creme, the belle of the ball, my new favourite highlighter of the moment, Champagne Pop! I only recently received this from Space NK after very eagerly pre-ordering and I have fallen in love. I will have an entire post on this so I won't say too much other than this is a gorgeous highlight. Super intense with such a fine, soft texture with no chunky glitter or sparkle in sight. It's just beautiful.
Eyes: Another thing you're probably going to get sick of me talking about are the Makeup Geek eyeshadows. These are the only shadows I've brought home from university with me and I can do just about any eye look I desire! The standouts for me have to be the foiled shadows. For this look I've taken Shimma Shimma for the inner corner and brown bone as a highlight, Starry Eyed to pack on the inner lid with Grandstand all over the rest of the lid. I also like to buff in a little bit of Americano into the crease just to deepen that up a bit. Finished off with some falsies and lashings of mascara, of course.
Lips: For New Years I want something bright, of course you can always go for a nude, something like Pure Hollywood by Anastasia Beverly Hills would be gorgeous and long lasting. Julianne's red by Loreal is a gorgeous vibrant red shade. I actually have a few of these lipsticks and I wasn't massively impressed with the formula, this one however is lovely. It has a slightly matte finish but is quite nourishing on the lips and lasts a good couple of hours before I find I have to top up. Another colour I haven't reached for in a while is Girl About Town by Mac, a vibrant pink with hints of purple. This is an amplified finish so the colour is super bright and pigmented, though they don't quite have the staying power of a matte finish.
What are you doing for New Years? Do you have a particular makeup look in mind?
the make up geek shadows look so good. i personally really love glittery and shimmery make up for new years eve but i hate new years eve in itself. just so much stress, deadly drunk people everywhere, someone i always crying, someone is always throwing up...its just not my cup of tea.

Unfortunately I won't be doing anything for New Years but if I was, I'd definitely be reaching for my more shimmery eyeshadows and use a base for my skin that gave me a super strong highlight. xx

These all sound like lovely picks! I really want to try the Bourjois Healthy Mix foundation as I love the concealer and powder from that range. Love the look of MAC's Girl About Town lipstick and the NARS palette :) x

I adore the bourjois healthy mix but my skin is playing up so much at the moment I just don't think it'll cover my acne well enough, may have to opt for my double wear foundation which is much heavier!
ReplyDeleteSo glad I came across your blog, I now follow you on Bloglovin
