What To Watch This Autumn

Anyone who knows me knows that I could spend hours in front my TV or computer watching endless boxsets. I just much prefer getting really into a good TV series rather than films and they provide the perfect distraction from university work (which I should probably be doing right now). My taste varies massively from the girly classics such as 90210, One Tree Hill, Desperate Housewives and Gossip Girl to the grittier Dexter, Game of Thrones and Breaking Bad (all of which I have watched from start to finish, some numerous times). I will watch pretty much anything and once I've started I have to finish, no matter how dire it seems to get, though I tend to enjoy gritter, creepier shows with serial killers and murder (what does this say about me?) As the nights are drawing in and my workload gets higher, I thought I'd share with you some of my recent favourites that I've been watching or am looking forward to getting stuck in to. So light a candle, grab a blanket (Primark have some amazing faux fur ones in at the moment) and stick your TV on.

1. The Strain: If you're into vampires and zombies then this is definitely for you. It's a very different take on the whole vampire genre but in true Guillermo del Toro (Crimson Peak & Pan's Labyrinth) style, it's just awesome. It follows a doctor and his team from the CDC who are called to investigate when an aeroplane lands at JFK with all onboard dead. Think apocalyptic, vampire virus outbreak.

2. The Walking Dead: I've always been a lover of anything zombie related, I think it may have been brought on by watching Night of The Living Dead so young but the love is still going strong. Season 6 has just started and I can't wait to get stuck in to some more zombie killing action. The whole show follows Rick Grimes and a group of other survivors as they fight to live in a post zombie apocalypse world.

3. American Horror Story: I watched the first season of this ages ago and loved it, then gave up when I couldn't get in to the second season but I'm so glad I gave it another go. (The second season is actually one of my favourites now) If you didn't know, American Horror story is an anthology series so every season there's a new story, new location and new characters and they're all very creepy. I've just caught up in time ready for the new season with Lady Gaga. Very excited!

4. Penny Dreadful: I'm still finishing off season one of this and so far I'm really enjoying it. Again it''s another horror-drama series featuring characters from various popular fiction, such as Dorian Gray and Dr Frankenstein with more nods to various monsters and vampires. If you're into those kind of genres I'd definitely give it a go.

5. Hannibal: I'm so annoyed that this has been cancelled by NBC because it truly is a beautifully made TV show. as a lover of all things serial killer and creepy, this is right up my alley. I will tell you that it isn't the easiest watch, it requires attention and may take a couple of episodes to really get into but it's so worth it. It really gets you thinking and there's just something incredibly beautiful about the whole show. It follows an FBI special investigator and his relationship with Dr Hannibal Lecter as well as a string of murders and other goings on.

6. Ex On The Beach & Geordie Shore: I've grouped these two together as I feel they basically fall under the same category of absolute crap but so hard to take your eyes off. I know they're awful but I can't help but love them. They're both "reality" TV shows that center on a group of young people, there's a lot of fights, sex, drinking and arguing. It sounds terrible but it's fantastic.

7. The Apprentice: I can't really put my finger on why I love this show so much but I'm so excited that it's finally back! Although I'm slightly sad that Nick is no longer an aide, I'm quite excited to see how the terrifying Claude Littner puts the contestants through their paces. I really admire the ambition that some of these people have and how much they've achieved but goodness me do some of them have enormous egos. We've all watched this and though, I could definitely do a better job.

8. Scream Queens: It's like a combination of American Horror Story and Glee, which is apt really as they're all created by the same man, Ryan Murphy. I was sceptical going in to this one but I'm actually finding it really funny. If you love movies that are a little more tongue in cheek and don't take themselves too seriously, then I really think you'll love this. On top of that the cast is pretty damn awesome and the fashion choices are to die for. (Awful pun, I do apologise)

What have you been watching on TV lately? Do you have any recommendations for me?

    1. Season 4 was a bit tame, it had so much potential to do well but it just calmed down after a few episodes.
