Glow Getters

First things first, a warning. This is going to be a very image heavy as I wanted to include swatches of every product as well as photographs of each and let's face it, highlighters are too pretty to not take pictures of them. I've included all the highlighters I own in this post (excluding illuminating primers or anything along those lines) and I'm going to talk you through each, as well as telling you which are my favourites and why.

I will start by saying I like every product in this post, not one of these highlights has massively let me down and I do use them all, some a lot more than others but that's because I think they all serve a slightly different purpose in my makeup routine and vary in colour, formula and finish. Most of these you will have heard a lot about in the beauty blogger universe, with a couple of cult favourites and classics.  What I love about highlighters is you get a lot of bang for your buck, these bad boys will last you a very long time as you only need such a little amount of product.

MAC | Soft & Gentle: This is one of those products you'll see all over the beauty blogging world, it's a gorgeous champagne pink highlight that is super soft to the touch, no chunky glitter in sight. What I love about this is how you can easily create a very subtle glow or build it up to something really intense. I like to use a fluffy eyeshadow brush and tap this in the product before dusting it over my cheekbones, down the centre of my nose and my cupids bow. One of my go to products for every day as it's a lot more subtle than some of the other highlighters here.

The Balm | Mary Lou Manizer: This is another classic, not only is the packaging really cute and quirky like most of The Balm's products, the highlight inside is insanely good. This is buttery smooth to touch and packs an insane amount of pretty champagne pigmentation. Though I do wear this in the day as well because I love to have a good glow to my makeup, this is perfect for nights out when you want everything to be that little bit more intense. You only need a little tap of your brush in to this to get your highlight on fleek.

Anastasia Beverly Hills | So Hollywood: Though this may look pretty similar to Mary Lou Manizer, this is definitely more on the gold side of things and again this packs a lot of colour and pigmentation. I won't go in to too much detail on this as I have a full review which you can read here. Just know that this is a gorgeous illuminator and one that you should get your hands on fast as they are limited edition.

Urban Decay | Naked Illuminated in Aura: This is probably the least used of my highlighters but it's by no means a bad product. This, unlike a lot of the others, is a lot more glittery and sparkly (probably the reason I bought it, I'm like a magpie) and something that I just don't like to wear on my face. Instead I prefer to use this on my body, in particular my collarbones and other high points that I want to accentuate when I go out.

Benefit | High Beam: The only non powder highlight in my collection. High Beam is a liquid formula that adds a pinky pearl gleam to the skin. I would recommend using your fingers to apply this and gently patting it onto the areas you want, I found that rubbing it caused my foundation underneath to lift slightly. The colour is perfect for those of us with very pale skin tones.

What are your favourite highlighters for getting that glow?

  10. So Hollywood has been on my list since I first saw a swatch of it, and it will be mine. The design on them is just gorgeous.
You might really like the Becca highlights, they're some of my favourites, and I ended up buying a second about a week after I got my first one. They're seriously so gorgeous.

    1. Thank you for reading! The illuminator is gorgeous, definitely more of an all over body shimmer to me than a highlighter.
