H&M Beauty | Review

You may have seen recently that H&M have just released their new beauty line to replace their old collection. Having never tried the old products personally, I can't comment on how good they were but the general consensus seems to be that they weren't the best. Cue a range of new products for face, eyes and lips, beautifully packaged in white, black and gold. I bought a selection of things from the new range to try out, including two eyeshadows, a lip stick, lip liner and blush. All the products are amazingly priced, pretty much in line with a lot of other drugstore brands. Here's my thoughts on what I tried, including swatches. The first thing I will say is that although super pretty, the packaging on these does feel cheap. It's quite a lightweight flimsy plastic but as these products are so cheap, this isn't a massive concern for me.

I picked up two of their eyeshadows in the shades Shitake (a shimmering brown shade) and Supernova (a sparkly nude shade). The formulas of these both feel slightly different and I personally think Shitake has the better of the two. It feels a lot more buttery and smooth, with a hell of a lot less fall out than Supernova. Although a really pretty shade, Supernova had a lot of fallout and the gorgeous sparkle in this did not translate to the lid in my opinion, I would definitely recommend using your fingers to apply this and using shadow shields to prevent overly glittery cheeks. I applied both of these over the top of my Urban Decay Primer Potion using Bliss from the Stila In The Light palette all over the lid, with Supernova over the lid and Shitake in my crease for a simple everyday look and they lasted well all day. I would recommend swatching in store to find shades with a better formula.

Next up is the blusher, I opted for the shade Pink Peach and this is exactly as it says on the tin, a really soft and pretty pink colour with a hint of peach. The closest thing I have to this in my collection is probably Fleur Power by MAC. This is an incredibly soft powder that glides on the cheeks like a dream. I didn't have any issues with this, if anything I would have used a much lighter hand when applying as this initially went on far too intense at first, nothing a big fluffy brush and some powder couldn't fix.

Finally I selected a lip liner and lipstick. The liner is in the shade Cherry Tart and the lipstick in Deco Ruby. The lip liner is excellent. I couldn't get this swatch off my hand for a long time afterwards and it lasts wonderfully on the lips. I find some lip liners a bit dry and dragging on the lips but this glided on like a dream, delivering an intensely pigmented and long lasting formula. This colour is perfect for Autumn and Winter and creates a beautiful lip combination with Deco Ruby. The lipstick has a moisturising formula with a slight glossy finish. Without eating or drinking I found this combination lasted a good 4 hours before I needed a slight top up on the inside of my lips.

Overall I would definitely recommend picking up a few bits from the new H&M line. They're very reasonably priced for the quality with the only cons being the slightly cheap feeling packaging and fall out of the one eyeshadow. I'll definitely be looking to try out a few more bits, especially a few more of the eyeshadows and their liquid lipsticks.

Have you tried any of the new H&M line?

  10. Thanks for this super informative and detailed review. I heard about them launching their new line and have been really interested to get my hands on some of their new products. Their first beauty line was really lackluster, which is why I never purchased anything from them, but the rebranding looks great. Even though the packaging may feel cheap, I do think that they look stunning, especially for the price.

    1. Exactly, I wouldn't expect super high end expensive packaging when the products cost so little. It's something that can easily be looked past!

  15. I've tried a few H&M products before and I think the quality is usually quite varied (but how good it feels when you find something great in that price range) What strikes me most about these new products is how gorgeous the packaging is! I haven't tried anything from the new range just yet, but my friend bought the lip liner and it's absolutely amazing! It really last all day!

  17. I didn't even know that H&M had bought out a new makeup range - their old one definitely wasn't the best! I love the look of this packaging, shame that it feels cheap, but I suppose you get what you pay for! I'll definitely have to check out the blush, lipstick and liner after reading this! Great post and lovely photos x
