You know those shopping trips where you only pop in for one thing and end up coming out with 5 new lipsticks and not the thing you originally went in for? Yeh, that happened. Yesterday I briefly popped into Boots before work, originally intending to get some toothpaste and shampoo. Instead, I cam out with 5 new lipsticks, some skincare bits and no toothpaste or shampoo. This is actually one of those times that I am grateful the Boots nearest to me is pretty small, as had it been any bigger I probably would have ended up spending a lot more.
I've been spying up the new Kate by Rimmel nude lipsticks for a while now on different beauty blogs and when I saw them I couldn't resist taking a sneaky look. I'll be honest, most of the shades really didn't appeal to me when swatched on my hand. I found most were far too light for me, personally preferring a much darker nude shade. I opted for the darkest of the shades on offer in number 45, a really pretty "your lips but better" colour that although seemingly doesn't make much difference at first, gives the lips and a really pretty, subtle and moisturising slick of colour. I also picked up another of the Kate by Rimmel shades, this time from the original line in another dark nude shade, number 08. I love the formulation of these lipsticks, they're really nice and moisturising without being too glossy or sticky, while still providing loads of colour.
Next I took a look at the Loreal stand. There wasn't a great deal of choice here but I'd always wanted to try out some of their lipsticks (the packaging is a major selling point here). I opted for 3 shades, one in Julianne's Pure Red, Eva's Delicate Rose and J.Lo's Nude. The red is absolutely stunning, I didn't even want to swatch this one at first it was just too pretty. It's such a vibrant red, almost fluorescent looking in the tube. This to me just screams Summer but I'm sure I'll be wearing this all through Autumn as well. This shade almost appears to have a demi-matte finish whilst still being really creamy and moisturising on the lips. Eva's Delicate Rose is a really pretty daytime pink shade, very true to the name. And finally we have J.Lo's Nude. Annoyingly there was no tester for this lipstick so I bought it on a whim as all Loreal cosmetics were on 3 for 2, so I was essentially getting it free anyway. When swatched on my hand this lipstick did barely anything, it took a fair few swipes to build up any sort of colour, which is a little disappointing. The formula is very creamy and moisturising which is lovely, I just wish it wasn't so sheer and there was more colour pay off. I guess this is a true nude really, I just prefer a bit more pigmentation in my lip products. This will probably get most wear on those days that require something very subtle.

I couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy the Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara, having heard such wonderful things about it all around the blogging world. As a daily wearer of falsies due to extremely short lashes, I'm really intrigued to see how well this works and if it lives up to the hype.
Finally I picked up a few of my favourite skincare bits that I'd recently used up, the Garnier micellar water and some Simple wipes. Two products that will always have a place on my dressing table.
I just wish I'd got the toothpaste and shampoo now.

What have you recently bought from the drugstore? Have you tried any of the above?
I own 08 and it is such a beautiful dark nude! Most of the dare to go bare collection lipsticks were too light for me as well and I tend to use them only if I have a particular makeup look! I really want to hear your thoughts on the Maybelline mascara, am looking at buying it too!

I was the same, I just didn't get anything from them when I swatched them on my hand, only the one I picked really stood out for me. I'll post a review when I've used it properly! :)

It happens to me too, I go for something and I end up buying other things and not getting what I need. I have 45 too and I also thought it would give some colour to my lips but it doesn't really do that but it is moisturising.

At least I'm not the only one haha! Out of all of them I think it was the best but I think I'll wear it over a lip liner for more effect!

I'm very jealous of your haul! I have that Kate Moss nude, I love it worn over a Rimmel lip liner that I think is called East End Snob. I have the mascara too, I found it was a lot better once it had dried out a bit! x

That's a great idea, thank you! I love East End Snob, they'll work great together. Ahh thank you for the tip! I'm yet to try it properly.

I think the red is definitely my favourite of the 3!

Even the packaging of those lipsticks is fab! I'm on a spending ban at the moment so no goodies for me! X

Don't worry, the forgetful Boots splurge happens to us all ;) I love that Maybelline Lash Sensational mascara, it's one of the very few mascaras I've actually re-purchased x

I'm really excited to try it, hopefully I can stop wearing false lashes so much!

Me too, so far so good!

Can totally relate to going into a drugstore for 1 item and coming out with a whole bunch of things aha. I'm such a sucker for drugstore make-up cause everything is so damn affordable (specially cause there are always sales going on too). I've got the lash sensational mascara and I really love it, so hopefully you do too. Also have that Kate Moss nude lipstick and I really like it, perfect for smoky eye-makeup looks to subtle it down. Great post, your photos are such high quality! x
