Life Updates | Big Changes

As I write this I am currently a week into a new job, new flat and essentially, a whole new life. The last month have involved some huge changes for me, in both work and my personal life and though I would normally be posting about baking, makeup, homeware or lifestyle, I thought it would be nice to take a break from all that and give you an update on me. It might also help to explain why I've been so slack with blogging lately. (Though I hope that will all change from now on.)

Probably the biggest change for me over the last month, was leaving my job at the pub and starting as a Junior Graphic Designer. It was never my plan to work behind the bar for the rest of my life and after finally graduating in July with a 2:1 in Graphic Design, it was straight into looking for something a little bit more exciting and in a new city. I won't lie, I did cry leaving work. I'd been there for four years and three months, a huge chunk of my life. I met some of my closest friends working there and grown from a quiet 18 year old to a confident 22 year old. But it was time to go. Had I found something closer to home, I would have stayed but for me, Manchester was always where I wanted to be. I love the vibe of this city, just small enough to walk from one end to the other but big enough to get lost in. It's full of creativity, great art, music, food and drink.

It can be very disheartening applying for jobs straight out of uni, especially if like me you have no experience. It feels like you're sending out application after application just to get nothing back, not even a rejection and everything you look at wants at least 2-3 years of experience before you're even considered. It wasn't until I actually sat down and took the time to apply for a job I really genuinely wanted and was passionate about, that I finally got lucky and now here I am, one week in as a Junior Graphic Designer at an incredible company. The first day was scary, I doubt myself a lot more than I should and let my insecurities get the better of me but in reality, everything was fine. I could do the work and the people were friendly, I look forward to getting up and going in to work. Something I never thought I'd hear myself say.

And with a new job comes a big move. It felt a little like going back to university, only this time permanent. I was lucky to find the ideal city centre flat next to Deansgate Locks with a lovely housemate and after being here a week or so, I can't imagine myself living anywhere else. And so blogging has taken the back seat. It's taken a back seat for some time now really. I think I just lost my spark a little bit but I'm ready for a comeback.

Now if my love life wants to get itself in order, life would be just peachy.

  5. I would love to hear more about your job or if you have already done a post about being a graphic designer or having a graphic design degree! I am currently studying design and I have the exact same fears about getting a design job
